Fira!!

Men inga fler lektioner, inga fler föreläsningar, inga fler uppsatser, woop woop!

Best of the 10s

Tillbaka i stan!

Gaming tips!

I played LOADS of games in 2019 (unlike the last 5 years, when I've been obsessed with Gears of War and ONLY played them). To choose ONE favourite game of the year was impossible and I decided to do a post about some really good games I've played this year, as well as do a little review. Find some favourites and start playing!

Starting with a Gears game, but it's not in the traditional Gears of War series (third person shooter). This RTS mobile game has you creating a "deck" with 8 different cards, and you level your cards up and verus other players' in the quest to take out the other one's bases (there are three. If you get the middle one down to 0 health, you win the game). You have to really think about what cards go well together, how to defend against, and counter, the other guy's cards and how to play smart. You can also team up with someone/a friend (only if you are in clan, for some reason) and play 2 against the computer in Horde. Now, Darren says that it's not at all on the same level as Clash Royale, but from someone who has played only this one, I would say that it is a cute little pass-time game, play it on the commute on your phone (or at home on a laptop, like I do), buy some packs with your earned coins (or real money), grind it out and brag to no one that you are top #500 on the world leaderboard, I do recommend it!

Achievements: There are some easy achievements to be earned (make sure to start with the "Win a versus battle with only the shit cards", BEFORE you start to rank up and run into much higher opponents. I'll never be able to get that one now...), but if you are a completionist, DO NOT go for this game, I have played countless hours and is only half-way on like three of them.
Platforms: iOS, Android, Windows 10
Play it if you like: Clash Royale

Fight endless of Zombies in waves in this really action packed (four player co-op) third person shooter. Like, it's not much else to say, it sticks out from other, similar games because of the AMOUNT of zombies that comes running towards you (as well as the beautiful graphic of how they fall when hit), and it is fun to stand for ages and take them out. At some points it was really difficult and you didn't have enough ammo, but overall: Good fun.

Achievements: There are a few hundred G you can pick up just by playing it on the easiest difficulty, and simply knowing of a few of them (such as "Do a level without dealing friendly fire" and "Do a level when using only pistol"), but to complete it would take a LOT of time and effort (for example killing 10 000 zombies (we ended up on 6600) and getting all the weapons, and to the highest level).
Platforms: Xbox One (On the Game Pass!), PS4, PC
Play it if you like: Left 4 Dead

A very beautiful, charming and surprisingly deep puzzle-2D platform game about being alone. While simultaneously controlling two cats, enjoy wonderful music as well as touching (a bit too on the nose) quotes inbetween the levels. The puzzles/levels produce quite the challenge, but I got super angry when it turns out that you can get the solution by just the press of a button (what's the point then, I felt). However, even when knowing the solution, it is difficult to do, so you still get to feel proud when you complete it!

Achievements: Definitely possible to 1000G (I have), most of the achievements are for simply completing it. One takes serious skills (basically take the cat through a level with invisible enemies, so simply remember when you must jump), but after about 50 tries, you will do it.
Platforms: Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS Vita
Play it if you like: The Misadventures of P.B Winterbottom, Braid

Cute 3D (and some levels 2D) platform game. Not too difficult, relatively easy to find collectibles. Enjoyable, but nothing groundbreaking. Takes like 10-12 hours to complete, if you are looking for collectibles for achievements. Beware! If you run out of lives, you lose your entire progress and will have to start over from the beginning, so prepare for some life-grinding (find them scattered across the levels, or collect 1000 coins).

Achievements: "Easy" to get 100%, basically by just completeing the game (but don't forget to dig a lot!)
Platforms: Xbox One (On the Game Pass!), PC, Nintendo Switch
Play it if you like: Crash Bandicoot, Sonic 3D, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy etc.

An adventure, platform/puzzle (not sure how to categorize it, actually) game about an old man taking a trip and every once in a while stops to reminisce about old memories and contemplate on his life. During his journey, you have to solve some little puzzles for him to move forward, and you can get a bit frustrated when you don't understand what you're supposed to do. But overall, it's super cute (and short, just play it!).

Achievements: "Easy" to get 100%, just make sure to read them before playing (and the train scene will take a few tries, but you can start right there)
Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, PC
Play it if you like: Independent, artsie, calm games that makes you think.

Not much to say, it's Bomberman. This one was great because you can play a nice long campaign (in co-op!).

Achievements: You get a few hundred simply by completing it, but to 100% it, it would be a lot of work (use a MILLION bombs, destroy a million blocks etc.)
Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC
Play it if you like: Bomberman

Despite its name, this is an incredibly fun puzzle game (get at least three in a row with the same colour, and they will dissapear, having new ones take their place. It's basically candy crush) with a long and hard (that's what she said) campaign. If you, like me, get obsessed with completing things (or puzzle games), this will give you many hours of entertainment. You can also versus each other (which turned into a fun drinking game, just sayin')

Achievements: We completed it, but it took a LOT of time, like a lot. Not recommended for completionests.
Platforms: Xbox One, PC
Play it if you like: Candy Crush, Bejeweled, Gems of War

I immediately fell in love with this adventure-platform-puzzle game. You play as a little boy that is being chased, and all you have to do is go from left to right (but of course there will be hindrances along the way, and you have to figure out how to overcome them), and you get to follow a disturbing, confusing and beautiful story. When you die (and you will), you start over right where you are. I really recommend it.

Achievements: All you have to do for achievements are to find the collectibles. They are well hidden, but gives you 80G each. So yes, easy to 100% it (if you look at a guide or just like to look around a lot).
Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, iOS, PC, Nintendo Switch
Play it if you like: Good stories that makes you think, Limbo (same creators)

This large, music-interested reaper of souls is dancing his way square by square whilst longing for his love on Earth, hoping to see her. It is a fun and challenging puzzle game, but different from any other I played (and it really makes you think, we got stuck a lot of times...). Still, pleasurable and worth the playthrough if you like puzzle games.

Achievements: Don't play this game for the G, is all I'm sayin'...
Platforms: Xbox One (On the Game Pass!), PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch
Play it if you like: Fez, Portal, Thomas Was Alone, Hue, puzzle games.

A hack and slash action, third person adventure game with an incredible story and fun game play. Level up your weapons as you play, defeat bosses, but also solve some "puzzles" (how do you get out of this room, levers, wheels, even portals). Very. Much. Recommended.

Achievements: You get like 500G by completing it on normal or easy, the rest is grinding and time consuming...
Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, Nintendo Switch, PS3, PS4, Wii U
Play it if you like: Diablo, Bayonetta, Portal, games with a good story

This is a great tribute to the old 32bit games to Mega Drive. A bit of the old levels, combined with a new look and completely new maps, but they are made to look as if it was made in 1992 (including the soundtrack), very charming! But also difficult as fuck, and it's a boss after every level. And forget about getting the emeralds, fricking impossible.. Still, amusing and a must for any nostalgic person that played the Sonic games as a child.

Achievements: Really really really difficult to complete, we got all the achievements we could (and yes, completed the game), and that was only 250G.
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC, PS4
Play it if you like: The old Sonic games, 2D platforms, swearing a lot because some of the bosses are bullshit

Combining a platform adventure game with pinball might sound strange, but this game makes it work. You play as a mail man that has to deliver letters and perform little quests for the creatures of the island, as well as collect fruit and save the world (kinda). Quite amusing.

Achievements: We got almost 500G from simply playing, without putting too much effort in, so it's pretty good for G, not sure how completable though.
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC, PS4
Play it if you like: Pinball, Rayman, platformers

These are actually three games, but I will review them as one. I cannot recommend them enough. This is a fantasy, RPG, strategical, turn-based game series where all the choices you make will matter and decide what happens and they carry over to the next game, and the fighting is amazing and the art work is amazing and the story is amazing and everyone should play it.

Achievements: We never checked the achievements beforehand (to avoid spoilers), and we still picked up like 400-500G in each game. If you want to 100% them, you will have to complete the game several times (with the different endings etc.)
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Xbox One (On the Game Pass!), PC, PS4, PS Vita, Android, iOS
Play it if you like: Turn-based games. Massive Chalice. Narcos, Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. Video games. Life. Chocolate. Ice Cream. Music. The movie Shawshank Redemption. Moral dilemmas

Easy, pixly 2D puzzle platform. Get the duck to the golden egg at the end of the level. Easy as pie. But, also, you have to avoid bats and spikes and butterflies and caterpillars, while walking in the ceiling. SOME levels took a few tries, not gonna lie, but we completed the game in less than an hour (taking turns, every other level).

Achievements: The easiest 1000G you will ever pick up.
Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch (maybe PC, not sure)
Play it if you like: Super Meat Boy, 2D puzzle-solving levels

A fun multiplayer game, just like the boardgame. But, I really enjoyed the campaign they had, with some special mine sweepers that made it interesting and challenging.

Achievements: The campaign took time, but was fun, then it's easy to get all the achievements.
Platforms: Xbox One, PS4
Play it if you like: Battleship

A fun and adventurous 2D side-scrolling platform. You get to smash a LOT of things, and it's nice and cartoony. Some of the bosses were ridiculously hard, and remember that if you die, you have to start from the beginning, so make sure to grind lives on the first level, if you want to complete the game...

Achievements: It's doable, getting 1000G, but it will take some serious grinding (collect 10 000 peanuts, ugh!)
Platforms: Xbox One, PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch
Play it if you like: 2D platsforms, Metal Slug, Sonic, Mario etc.

This game hit me. Hard. It is weird to put a category on it, you follow a (real) family and the (real) stories of what happened to all those family members. You walk around the old house where they used to live, and you listen to their tales. I don't think it's for everyone, but I just loved this game. And it's such easy G, play it if only for that.

Achievements: Takes about 2 hours to complete, and it's easy to get all the achievements (if you look them up beforehand!).
Platforms: Xbox One (On the Game Pass!), PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch
Play it if you like: A really good story, easy G.

It's a good pass-time, if you like solitaires of course. 10 easy ones (one colour), 20 on normal (two colours) and 70 levels on hard (4 colours), that's it, and they are all solvable (quite easy, even on hard).

Achievements: Yes, you can complete it, but it takes 10+ hours.
Platforms: Xbox One, PS4 (maybe some more)
Play it if you like: Solitaires

A fun puzzle platform game that have you thinking (a lot, and fast!).

Achievements: Yes, you can get 1000G, and it takes 6-8 hours to complete.
Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch
Play it if you like: Thomas Was Alone, Wandersong, puzzle platforms

An action-puzzle game that you can play multiplayer or in a story. It's easy enough to understand, you have to get rid of all the coloured blocks to complete the level, and you have to do it by clicking on three of the same colour, in a row. I swear, I, who love Tetris and Puyo Puyo and those sort of games, LOVED this one! It is hard as fuck, I'm not gonna lie (as in: I spent three hundred tries and about 3 hours on one of the worst levels), but it's great (IF you like those kind of games). There are also "Pass tokens" you can use for levels you get stuck on. You know, for pussies.

Achievements: You can get a lot of G if you are stubborn and look at guides on how to do the levels, but you will never ever 100% it, sorry (for that to happen, you would have to beat 3 nightmare bots, and that's not gonna happen. $50 to whoever does it!)
Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch
Play it if you like: Tetris, Puzzle Bobble, Puyo Puyo

The classic boardgame, but in a party- video game version. If you are a few people and want to have some quick fun, definitely get this game. The categories are a bit repetitive, but it's still amusing and does it's job.

Achievements: Some quick G just for playing a few rounds (problem is finding games online), but to complete would take a LOT of played games of it...
Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4
Play it if you like: Buzz, Quiz games, party games

After having abstinence from Banner Saga, this amazing tale was very similar, also a strategic turn-based combat system. In this one, you don't have a story and follow specific characters in the same way, here you are trying to keep ancient families alive by making sure they marry and have children, and don't die in wars (trust me, better than I make it sound). If you stay alive for 300 years (and yes, you can fast-forward whenever you're not at war etc.), you win the game. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Achievements: Not great for G, but if you look up the achievements beforehand, you can still get a few hundred (we had not, so ended up with but 250...).
Platforms: Xbox One, PC
Play it if you like: The Banner Saga, Narcos, Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden

A puzzle-ish platform game where you use letters on your paths, in a very innovative and amusing way. Even the monsters/bosses are created out of letters. How many words can you create? It's a challenge sometimes, but not too bad. Cute independant game, definitely recommendable if you're into this genre.

Achievements: Just by completing the game (took us 7 hours), we got 400G. To get all the chievos, you would have to complete it without dying more than 5 times (I couldn't do it, but you're welcome to try).
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, PC
Play it if you like: Limbo, Inside, Braid, Scrabble, Boggle, puzzle platformers

Not much to say really, it's a Mortal Kombat. I just hadn't played the campaign before, and that was fricking amazing, recommended to all, even if you don't like fighting games!

Achievements: Yeah, that's a lot of G in it, but a lot of work to complete it, I would say.
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4
Play it if you like: Fighting games

Another 2D puzzle platformer. So simple in graphics, but still fun to play, introducing more and more characters (shapes), that need to go the their correct places to complete the level. It also has a surprisingly deep story narrated by an actor from the tv-series "You're the Worst".

Achievements: Easy to complete (just make sure to look out for the tiny little black squares!) Perhaps best to use guide, though.
Platforms: Xbox One, PC, PS4, PS3, Android, iOS,
Play it if you like: 2D puzzle games

Really fun adventure platform from the creators of Castlevania. It's a big fucking game, but really enjoyable, and I think I made it to 95% map completition before I gave up, after beating the last boss of course. Good story, too, definitely recommeded!

Achievements: There is a lot of G in it, but a lot of work if you want to complete it (trueachievements.com says up to 50 hours!)
Platforms: Xbox One (On the game pass!), PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch
Play it if you like: The Castlevania games, the campaign in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a good adventure game
